For the past seven years I’ve been building a dark fantasy universe called Pyre, with a book being published later this year.
Now we’re turning that world into a Hytale MMORPG server. But instead of waiting until everything is finished, we opened the first realm of the Pyre universe early so players can begin shaping it with us. And most importantly, helping us build this passionate rp and dark medieval fantasy community.
🜂 The Server Story
Long ago the world of Nu fell beneath the rule of a necromancer king named Mahlbar. In his pursuit of immortality, he sacrificed twenty million souls to the Void Prince Ghida, a god of darkness who rules beyond the boundaries of the living world. In return, Ghida claimed Mahlbar’s soul and returned it to his body with terrible power — so long as the king continues to feed the void with endless death. Now Mahlbar’s soul exists within Draelith, a nightmare realm inside the Void itself — a fractured collection of memories, fears, and broken worlds shaped by the echoes of his cursed spirit. You awaken in The VEDLT, one of those shattered fragments.
Long ago Mahlbar divided pieces of his soul and scattered them across this nightmare realm, binding the people of Nu to the same curse that sustains his power.
🜂 The Novels Story - What PyreTale is based on
Pyre is an original dark fantasy universe built from over seven years of worldbuilding, inspired by the tone and story notes of classic mythic that is the Arthurian legend. Under a rather horrifying grimdark lens. The story explores the struggle between divine ideals and cosmic corruption in a world where gods, stars, and ancient void entities all compete for the souls of mortals.
At the center of this universe is the world of Nu, a mortal realm that has become the battleground between two cosmic forces: the Stars of Ideals, who represent virtue and order, and the Void Princes, ancient entities of destruction who seek to corrupt reality and harvest souls.
When mortals die, their souls are not simply laid to rest. They are carried across the ethereal void and auctioned among the powers of the cosmos, claimed by the gods, stars, or Void Princes who would use them to strengthen their realms.
Within this universe, dark sorcerers can form pacts with these Void Princes, trading souls for unimaginable power. The most terrifying of these servants become Lich Kings, immortal tyrants whose souls are bound to their patrons in the Void.
Pyre tells the story of a world caught between Providence and Doom, where kingdoms rise, ancient magic returns, and the fate of entire civilizations may be decided by the choices of mortals.
